A study reported in yesterday's Deseret News reports the following of of U.S. high school students:
  • Cheating in school is rampant and getting worse. 64% cheated on a test in the past year and 38 percent did so two or more times.
  • 36% said they used the Internet to plagiarize an assignment.
  • 42% said they sometimes lie to save money (49% of the boys and 36% of the girls).
  • 35% of the boys and 26% of the girls acknowledged stealing from a store in the past year.

Here's the clencher: 93% said they were satisfied with their personal ethics and character. 77% affirmed that "when it comes to doing what is right, I am better than most people I know."

Every group always has about 75% or more who feel they are above average.
