Mourning Men Who Died

INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK APPRECIATION DAY

MAY 29TH IS THE "INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK APRECIATION DAY."

ON THIS DAY, IT IS CUSTOMARY FOR EVERYONE TYPING OVER THE INTERNET TO USE AS MANY CAPITAL LETTERS AS IS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. THIS DAY STEMMED FROM THE OVER-USE OF CAPITAL LETTERS IN FORUMS TO THE EXTENT THAT SOMEONE DECLARED THAT THEY SHOULD SAVE IT ALL FOR "INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK APRECIATION DAY."

LONG LIVE THE REIGN OF THE CAPS LOCK.

Consequences

“Agency, or the power to choose, was ours as spirit children of our Creator before the world was. (See Alma 13:3; Moses 4:4.) It is a gift from God, nearly as precious as life itself. Often, however, agency is misunderstood. While we are free to choose, once we have made those choices, we are tied to the consequences of those choices. We are free to take drugs or not. But once we choose to use a habit-forming drug, we are bound to the consequences of that choice. Addiction surrenders later freedom to choose. Through chemical means, one can literally become disconnected from his or her own will!”

Lord Prepares the Way

“When the servants of the Lord determine to do as He commands, we move ahead. As we proceed, we are joined at the crossroads by those who have been prepared to help us. They come with skills and abilities precisely suited to our needs. And, we find provisions; information, inventions, help of various kinds, set along the way waiting for us to take them up. It is though someone knew we would be traveling that way. We see the invisible hand of the Almighty providing for us. For instance, inventions in the fields of travel and communication have come along just as we were ready for them... The airplane did not come as an accidental discovery... Revelation was involved. It came precisely when we could use it to move across the world to restore the Gospel... When we are ready, there will be revealed whatever we need—we will find it waiting at the crossroads.”

Winning the War on Pornography

According to 2010 statistics, the average age a child is first exposed to Internet pornography is 8 years old. 90% of 12-17-year-old boys have viewed pornography online, most while doing homework. Additionally, recent medical findings indicate that even one exposure to pornography can be as addictive as cocaine.

The Parent & Youth Conference: “Winning the War on Pornography” can help you understand the gravity of the situation and help you learn how you can fight pornography in your community and home. This free conference for parents and youth on May 22, 2010 will be held in 3 Southeast Idaho locations: Pocatello, Idaho Falls, and Rexburg.

Express and Demonstrate Love

“Each of us already knows we should tell the people we love that we love them. But what we know is not always reflected in what we do. We may feel unsure, awkward, or even perhaps a bit embarrassed. “As disciples of the Savior, we are not merely striving to know more; rather, we need to consistently do more of what we know is right and become better. “We should remember that saying ‘I love you’ is only a beginning. We need to say it, we need to mean it, and most importantly we need consistently to show it. We need to both express and demonstrate love.”

Don't Overschedule Your Life

"Don't overschedule yourselves or your children. We live in a world that is filled with options. If we are not careful, we will find every minute jammed with social events, classes, exercise time, book clubs, scrapbooking, Church callings, music, sports, the Internet, and our favorite TV shows. One mother told me of a time that her children had 29 scheduled commitments every week: music lessons, Scouts, dance, Little League, day camps, soccer, art, and so forth. She felt like a taxi driver."

--M. Russell Ballard, "Daughters of God," Ensign, May 2008, 109–10

Prioritize Your Commitments

"How we use our time and keep our lives in balance is fundamental to how we will perform our family duties and our Church service. Discipline yourself to follow the prophet's counsel on how you prioritize the use of your time. Begin by discussing with your eternal companion how much time you need together to strengthen your marriage, to demonstrate the love you have for each other. That is your first priority."

--L. Tom Perry, "A Solemn Responsibility to Love and Care for Each Other," Ensign, June 2006, 89

Knowledge

"Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection. And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come." D&C 130: 18-19

From this, I understand that intelligence is of eternal value. Gaining knowledge must be necessary to us in the eternities, so we might as well be about it now. To eventually create worlds, I believe we will need knowledge of geography, astronomy, physics, chemistry, and other sciences.

Prayer

“Prayer is not a way of making use of God; prayer is a way of offering ourselves to God in order that He should be able to make use of us. It may be that one of our great faults in prayer is that we talk too much and listen too little. When prayer is at its highest we wait in silence for God's voice to us; we linger in His presence for His peace and His power to flow over us and around us...."
